On August 10th, 2021, Idris Elba became the confirmed and official voice actor of Knuckles the Echidna.

This was announced in a tweet of his, which reads the words: "Knock, knock", an obvious reference to Knuckles.

This follows up with the Sonic movie franchise's cast (and it's own twitter account) to addressing this.
